Venice with children
A Venice of campi, museums, boats and breaks: with children, the secret is not turning the day into a race.
Venice can be wonderful with children if you change the pace. Fewer monuments to tick off, more experiences: a vaporetto ride, a campo where you can stop, a well-chosen museum and time simply to observe the city.
Build a lighter day
Choose one major visit in the morning and keep the afternoon more flexible. Venice with children works best when monuments, vaporetto rides, breaks and moments when they can simply play are alternated.
Natural History Museum
The Giancarlo Ligabue Natural History Museum of Venice, housed in the Fontego dei Turchi on the Grand Canal, is particularly suitable for families. Natural-history collections and displays provide an engaging change of pace from exploring the city, including for younger children.
Green spaces and play
Venice also has places where you can slow down. Sant’Elena and the Giardini della Biennale area allow you to add a green break to the day; in equipped areas, children can play and move around away from the busiest routes.
Campi are part of the itinerary
Venice does not always need organised attractions. Quieter campi are perfect for a snack, a break and a few minutes of freedom before continuing your visit.
Stroller or baby carrier?
Bridges and steps make some routes more demanding with a stroller. A carefully planned itinerary and a few vaporetto journeys can make the day considerably easier.
Marghera Venice Apartments tip
Do not try to see all of Venice. A successful day with children is worth more than a very long list of monuments visited in a hurry.
