Venice feels very different over Christmas and New Year, but September is too early to assign last year’s fireworks, concerts or access arrangements to 2026–27. This guide separates what you can already plan from details that need the new official holiday programme.
The full 2026–27 programme is not published yet
As of 11 September 2026, we cannot find a complete City programme for Christmas 2026 and the night of 31 December 2026. The official New Year pages most readily available still describe 31 December 2025, so we do not automatically carry last year’s fireworks, concerts, viewing areas or times into the new edition.
What you can book now
You can already plan accommodation, transport, restaurants and major attractions. Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day often come with special opening hours, while museums, churches and attractions usually publish detailed holiday calendars closer to the date.
Christmas Venice without chasing a timetable
Winter Venice works even without a headline event: illuminated streets, churches, museums, cicchetti and evening walks fit the shorter days well. Once 2026 markets, concerts and installations are officially announced, add the ones that fit your route rather than building the whole trip around an unpublished schedule.
New Year’s Eve: do not assume fireworks yet
Venice has organised public New Year celebrations in recent years, but the format, access areas, shows and transport plans change. Until the City publishes the 31 December 2026 arrangements, we do not describe St Mark’s Basin fireworks, concerts or viewing points as confirmed.
Cold weather, fog and high tide
December and January can be damp, cold and windy. Good shoes, layers and a quick check of the official tide forecast make planning easier. High tide is usually localised and time-limited rather than a reason to abandon the whole day.
Travelling from Marghera over the holidays
Guests can leave the car at the apartment and use public transport into Venice. Holiday services and New Year night timetables may change, so check ACTV/AVM and Trenitalia shortly before travelling.
