Marghera Venice Guide

An almost secret side of Venice

Pellestrina is long, narrow and deeply connected to fishing. Houses face the lagoon while the Murazzi on the opposite side tell the story of defence from the Adriatic.

Cycling is one of the most natural ways to explore it, linking villages, churches, wild beaches and panoramic stretches without rushing.

Our practical tip

Decide your entry point first

From Lido you can continue via Alberoni; from Chioggia use lagoon connections. If cycling, always check bicycle transport rules and timetables.

❤️ Ca’ Roman and the Murazzi

These places are associated with a more intimate, less monumental lagoon.

A story from the area

The Murazzi and the 1966 Acqua Granda

The Murazzi were built to protect Lido and Pellestrina from the sea. The exceptional flood of 4 November 1966 severely tested the coastal defences and remains part of Venetian memory.
